They’re baaaaackkk….

Once again, it’s baby great horned owl season.  On March 3, the RMRP admitted the first nestling great horned owl of the season – this youngster is a “branchling”, old enough to be moving around outside the nest, climbing out onto branches to explore.  But since his nest was on a narrow I-beam in a warehouse, he immediately fell 20 feet to the ground.  He’s uninjured – but we don’t want to risk more injury to him by returning him to his nest.  We will look for another nest to put him in (great horned owls are very accepting of “adopted kids” if they are the same stage as the owlets already in the nest).  Meanwhile, he is being cared for by our foster parent great horned owls.

He was joined by a second orphaned youngster on March 4th.   At this stage, a branchling will eat 1/3 of his body weight in mice every day – that’s like a 120-pound human eating 160 Quarter Pounders - every day.   Want to help?  Buy a gift certificate from Layne Labs for frozen mice and rats for the RMRP, and they will add 15% to your amount:  Visit www.LayneLabs.com or call (800) 809-9431
