American Kestrel (Falco sparverius)
This spicy little American Kestrel was rescued by RMRP in 2018. He was hit by a car in Berthoud, CO and suffered lots of damage to his right wing. He had a trauma to his right metacarpus (wrist area), and was missing most of his flight feathers on his right. He also had an injured eye, and he had been nearly scalped.
True to his feisty demeanor, this Kestrel healed fast and furious. However, despite all efforts, his flight feathers never regrew on his right wing. This left him permanently grounded.
This smart, courageous little falcon then started his second life as an Educational Ambassador with RMRP. He has flourished in classrooms as a teacher, an inspiration, and a fierce face to represent Colorado’s wildlife.
