When you become a volunteer at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, our staff and volunteers do whatever we can to make sure you have a fun and rewarding experience.
Click here to fill out an application and to sign up to attend the next Volunteer Orientation. You must attend an orientation to begin working with the raptors.
Age: You must be 10 years or older to volunteer. Volunteers between age 10 and 16 must be accompanied at each volunteer shift by a parent or other adult.
Attendance: Volunteers attend weekly Rounds. These required meetings occur every Tuesday evening from 6-7:15 PM. We discuss medical cases, determine treatments, cover new raptor intakes, coordinate schedules for daily treatments and upcoming events, and address general RMRP business.
The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program runs a structured training program for those who wish to work with the raptors. Advancement through the levels depends on your level of participation, your comfort level, your progress, and your effectiveness in working with the birds.
The majority of RMRP volunteer positions require a commitment of one year working one shift of three to four hours per week. Before completing an application, we ask that you read the Volunteer Roles page and review the Current Volunteer Openings. You will be asked to specify the volunteer opening you are applying for on the application.
“We all have to choose which organizations to support with our time and money, but the RMRP is a local group with global impact. Every dollar is stretched and every volunteer gives 110%. Mostly, though, I feel that every child or adult who sees a live bird at one of our educational programs or booths is forever changed. The RMRP is helping our future as much as our present.”
