Position Purpose:

  • To assist the Education Department in providing public outreach through informal exhibits; making public connections; and providing conservation education.
  • To support the fundraising efforts of the RMRP through merchandise sales and solicitation of donations.
  • To support the RMRP mission of Inspiring the protection and appreciation of raptors and the spaces they live through excellence in raptor education, rehabilitation, and research.

Qualifications:

  • Believe in and support the Mission of the RMRP
  • Have an interest in Colorado raptors and conservation
  • Able to attend 1 scheduled in person training session
    • Dates are Sat May 7 OR Sun May 15 from 9 am – 5 pm
  • Able to complete online training classes through Google Classroom (preferably) by May 20, 2022
  • Commit, in advance, to a minimum of 8 days between late May and end of October
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds; good mobility including bending and reaching; able to stand for up to one hour.
  • Have strong situational awareness
  • Able to utilize or learn iPad and Square technology to make sales
  • Able to converse professionally and respectfully with the public
  • Be able to work independently and with others
  • Be self-directed
  • Able to pass a background check

Duties and responsibilities:

Sharing Our Mission
  • Exhibit Participation
    • Collaboratively design and implement booth area setup under direction from Exhibit Coordinator
      • Setup & teardown of pop-up tents, tables, merchandise, literature, tent weights and other materials
      • Load and unload vans
    • Perform merchandise sales
      • Utilize iPad and Square to sell merchandise
      • Maintain quality merchandising (stocking and display of merchandise) and  security of goods
      • Maintain security of cash and credit card information (will need to sign credit card security policy)
    • Solicit donations
    • Provide informal public engagement in accordance with approved conservation messaging such as: talking about RMRP’s mission and work, and answering general raptor related questions from the public
    • Interact with enthusiasm and professionalism to build relationships with the public around the RMRP Mission and messaging
  • Exhibit Material and Supplies Organization
    • Prep exhibit materials at the main facility prior to the exhibit and preload the van(s)
    • Clean, sanitize, and restock materials at the main facility after the exhibit in accordance with established protocols
  • Develop, maintain and display knowledge surrounding (training is provided)
    • RMRP’s mission and approved conservation messaging
    • General understanding about the rehabilitation and education aspects of the Program
    • General knowledge of relevant federal and organizational regulations and protocols
    • General knowledge of local raptor species
    • Knowledge of merchandise the RMRP carries (local artisans, environmentally friendly, etc.)
  • Understand it is part of every person’s job to aid in safety and security of the RMRP facility, raptors, people, vehicles, possessions, and money
  • Agree to read, understand, and follow all RMRP protocols, rules, and regulations, and any changes and updates that may occur
  • This position will NOT work directly with the ambassador raptors

Time requirements:

  • Minimum 8 days per season (May-Oct) not including training day(s)
    • Dates will be selected and committed to for the season during in-person training
    • Length of days depends on exhibits chosen but can run from 5 to 12 hours

  • Reporting to education staff and lead volunteers about any concerns or issues
  • Maintaining a professional and positive working relationship & rapport with staff and other volunteers.
